Friends of ours recorded a few songs, including Country Roads.

As a West Virginia gal, it is a song near and dear to my heart…even if John Denver didn’t know the difference between western Virginia and my home state.

Go figure.

Anyway, thought I’d pass along a lovely listening experience to everyone for their Sunday morning smile.

Enjoy…especially the part at the end of Country Roads where my friend Davin works in a little of Simple Gifts.

Sunday Cuppa

Color me intrigued by the potential of this film in asking really important questions about life and internal debates.  And possibly shedding some needed light on a very shrouded religious sect’s history:

The project was initiated by a member of Opus Dei, is partly produced and financed by the group’s members and has enlisted an Opus Dei priest to consult on the set. News of the project has set off criticism among some former Opus Dei members that the movie will be little more than propaganda for the organization. But Mr. Joffé, in the first interview he has given about the film, said that he had been given complete creative control and that Opus Dei never had any influence on the project.

He ditched the script he was originally given, he said, because he did not want to make what he called a “biopic” about Escrivá’s life. But, he added, he was intrigued by Escrivá’s ideas about the power of forgiveness and the capacity of every human being for sainthood. Opus Dei — the name is Latin for work of God — teaches that ordinary work can be a path to sanctity if the believer maintains a demanding regimen of religious practices intended to achieve holiness.

And yet? I’m skeptical about the "full creative control" from financial backers.

Does that smack of set up for contrived public protest and victimhood if the film isn’t sufficiently reverential of its subject to anyone else?

Anyone heard anything about this film?

I loved the shades of gray and bleak honesty of Joffe’s prior work in "The Killing Fields."  Would love to see some of that on this subject matter, good or ill, as well.

I know I’ve been on a bit of a cello kick lately, but this performance by Yo-Yo Ma of Dvorak’s Silent Woods (YouTube) is incredible. Very moving and lush.

Sometimes, you just have to pause and be thankful for the beauty in the world, too. Because there has to be some good to fight for, along with the things you fight against.

Take a little time to find something good in your world today. Or make something good happen for you.

You deserve it.

We’re all individual threads, but together, we become infinitely stronger. A reader sent this along and it made me smile. Thought I’d share it with all of you: I became Travis’ big brother when he was just 6 years old. He was a cute kid who lived with his Aunt who was and continues to be a terrific influence in his life.

Bright boat in Norway via This is a good day.

I love this photograph.

The red-orange of the boat hull against the gray-blue-green of the water is so beautiful, isn’t it? Just gorgeous.

It pulls me in like a good story does, making me want to know more. See more.

Sparklers on the Fourth via Tom Olliver.

There’s just something magical about watching a child and her wonder at the magic of a sparkler on the Fourth of July.

Just had to share that this morning.

Because sometimes, a little wonder and amazement at the world around us can be a nice reminder of the good things in life.

English garden robin via canong2fan.The first time I ever read The Secret Garden, I was hooked. The little robin drew me in and then Dickon sealed the deal.

There have been any number of books and gardening seasons since then, but I find myself always returning to contrary Mary’s plea for a “bit of earth to call my own.” Something about the renewal of that promise of life and growing
