Christy---When I read your post yesterday it was like getting punched in the gut. I wasn't a super-frequent commenter--seemed to me like I wasn't exactly
in the club--but I read FDL every day for what seemed like years. What a dark time for those of us who can think. I can't even find the words to tell you in what high esteem I hold you and your colleagues. It was like FDL was the dear friend I needed to help me believe that we could stand together and have some clout and some meaning in this time. It's been working...

Some people think it's corny when I say that I love my country. But I do--but kinda like the way you love someone who is breaking your heart. And going to the Lake everyday was akin to going to counseling with a magical therapist.
Thank you for that.

I get so angry when people I care about get sick. So many healthy icky people out there. I will think about you every day and send you good wishes and hope from my heart.

Dear Christy, I'm way late with this, but I wish you wellness and many years of happiness shared with your family. You have made the right decision. My peanut is now 49 years old with a peanut of her own. Just recently I was able to give her what none other was willing or capable of - simply a determination to understand her perspective. Your relationship as mother is precious beyond words. When your peanut is 49, she will probably tell you so. You have beautiful years ahead, so take care of your health.

Christy.

I have not lately spent much time at FDL, but when, checking in, I found no Christy, I confess to some trepidation ... and, indeed, real concern.

I shall miss your humane, thoughtful and always enlightened commentary and perspective, and hope that we may, on occasion, hear from you and learn what is happening in your life.

You are a most remarkable human being, and what you give, to everyone, is of incalculable worth.

May you and you family, and especially your daughter, come to understand the fullness of what that means and has meant to, literally millions of other human beings.

My profoundest and most sincere thank you, to you, simply for being far more influential and important in framing the critical narratives of decency, compassion, and mature responsibility every single day than ANY of us have, as yet, fully realized.

You and yours shall be in my thoughts until I no longer have thoughts.

Christy -- I guess this is the way it is, one day here, next day gone. You do what you must, and we'll go on without you, missing you all the way. May good fortune smile on you and your family.

I was here at the beginning (I might have been one of the four commenters), and even then I predicted to friends and family what Firedoglake would become. Quality will out, and it did. I hope you can take satisfaction from helping to create one of the foundations of progressive political discourse. You earned it.

There was one curious thing about your blog, and that was the contribution of a commenter named "me." He/she was the Johnny Appleseed of activism, and then disappeared one day never to return, the job done. Do you have any idea who this was? The real work of political activism started right there.

Enjoy your time, Christy. My peanut is 27 years old, still small and still nutty, and she makes me laugh every time we talk. It's all good.

Best of luck,
landreau

Christy, I wish you weren't leaving blogging. My first memory of FDL is hearing you on the radio cutting through all the flak on the Alito nomination. When I think of one of the things that brought me to FDL it was that sane down-to-earth legal analysis.
Please take care. You are what's good and great in this world. and in the meantime I will pray that your illness goes into complete and utter remission.

Let’s all just say a small prayer to the remission gods and see if a little rest and some seriously improved dietary antioxidant munching helps. Mmmmm…kale….

Thanks Karen — I’m trying to learn the zen of allowing the balls to fall and not feeling guilty. Not easy, but I’m working on it. (Just not stressing out about it. No…um…really. *g*)
