Looking for a historical parallel I came upon an account of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Wentworth,_1st_Earl_of_Strafford#Recall_and_impeachment" rel="nofollow">Thomas Wentworth</a> (heats up at the link, but the whole story is on point) that has some nice similarities.
