Connecting The Eyeliner Dots On the Rove Role In DOJ Firings?

With the recent release of a myriad of e-mails, documents and breathy reportage and leakage, it’s no wonder that Rove and Gold Bars Luskin tried to get themselves out in front of the wave by giving multiple "exclusives."

Oxymorons notwithstanding, when you have bad PR coming your way, it’s always better to stand in front of it shouting "look, over there!"

It’s like the dogs in Up.  Except Rove and Luskin have better Beltway material to offer up than a squirrel sighting, I’m certain.

Any day now, I expect to see anonymous exclusives about the Cheneyites or some other poor, expendable sap or deserving payback offendee cropping up in a news exclusive near me.

Honestly, it’s been their M.O. for ages, so it’s not exactly a shocker when it happens, now is it?

Deflect, deny, desensitize. Rinse, lather, repeat.

What’s funny is the breathless tone of Isikoff’s latest in Newsweek.

In perhaps the most significant passage in the new material, former White House counsel Harriet Miers—questioned by the judiciary committee for the first time in June—described getting a phone call from a "very upset" Rove telling her that Iglesias was "a serious problem and he wanted something done about it."

Who here didn’t know about the ruckus caused by NM GOP politicos and Rove having their fingers in this particular political pie? Don’t be shy, raise your hand. *crickets*

The more intriguing question for me is: will Harriet, also being in this up to her overly-eyelinered eyeballs, spill on the Turdblossom to save her own scrawny hind end? Or, more importantly, to deflect any tarnish from Dubya’s hiney?

Will Rove get a polite little card with to the effect of "roses are red, violets are hokey, get some more lawyers or head to the pokey," in Harriet’s swirly handwriting?

A girl can dream.

Broadstreetbuddy | Thursday August 13, 2009 06:18 am 6

If she does rat Rove out that could clear the way for other people to muster up the courage to tell their own stories of what really happened and more evidence to be piled on.

Also the morning idiot and Mika were reporting today that Cheney has some harsh words for Bush now that some statute of limitations have expired. This is going to be interesting . . .

The thing that stands out to me about the Miers quotes is that they involve descriptors of her recollection of Turdblossom’s ‘emotional state of mind’. It carries a heightened degree of believability.

On one hand, you have Rove angling for the ‘do not recall which raindrop in the thunderstorm hit him between the eyes’, on the other, you have Miers showing that she has an imprinted memory of specifically what was going on and the emotional import of it.

Regardless of what happens, in a he said she said between Miers and Rove, I have to think Miers has initially put herself in a position of strength. Of course for Rove, he leaves room for being able to have selective spontaneous recall to better match Miers’ “superior memory”.

Since I first read about this scandal, I have been impressed with the professional way Capt. David C. Iglesias has handled himself. His conduct has been a tribute to both himself and to the legal profession. I wrote about Capt. Iglesias’ interview with Prof. Horton here.

I find it intriguing that Scott Jennings wanted Patrick Rogers to replace Capt. Iglesias as U.S. Attorney. Frankly, Mr. Rogers is not qualified to be an attorney, let alone be a United States Attorney. Because of the latest document dump, my posts on Mr. Rogers are again getting some attention, including from Reuters:

Until Obama and Holder make it clear that the real culprits–Bush, Cheney, Addington, Yoo and the rest–will pay with real jail time, I have a hard time getting really excited about developments. But still, when we see things like this Miers-Rove pissing contest and the word this week that Cheney was pouting because little Georgie stopped listening to Uncle Dick in his second term, I start wondering if it really could happen…

Neither Rove or Miers (or other Bushies, like Yoo, Bybee, etc.) have had trouble getting prestigious, well-paying jobs since they left the Bush Administration. However, it took Gonzales nearly 2 full years to even land a job and, notably, it’s not as a lawyer but is a part-time gig at Texas Tech teaching a political science class. And when compared to what other former Bushies are making these days, his $100,000 annual salary is actually quite paltry.

Gonzales has the most incentive, from a financial standpoint, to turn on his former cronies, so he was given the Texas Tech ‘job’ to continue buying his silence. With what he knows, the Bushies are getting off cheap, cheap, cheap and Gonzales, yet again, demonstrates his unbelievable incompetence.

Elizabeth [Manchester] petitioned the court to guarantee that she have sole use of the La Jolla residence … and that he restore the $100,000 so she can meet her monthly expenses of $131,625. These include nearly $20,000 on clothing and jewelry, $7,000 in electric bills, $1,700 in groceries, $4,901 in household supplies, tuition at three private schools for some of the couple’s 10 grand children, $7,500 in salary for the full-time groundskeeper and housekeeper, $1,200 in membership dues for the La Jolla Country Club and money toward the hundreds of thousands of dollars in travel expenses the couple was accustomed to spending.

I should correct it to say Heather Wilson sent the e-mail to Scott Jennings.

The northern part of NM is very Hispanic, but we didn’t elect Rs forever in NM because of that fact. There is the conservative southern and rural part of the state, and ABQ has a lot of defense industry money.

Heather is not strong even in the south however. Hers is an uphill battle against Diane Denish, the current (and popular) Lt. Gov. of the state. Diane keeps her distance from the patron-style crony politics of Bill R, who has done some good things as a Dem, despite his trad-style.

Gonzales’ stupidity does pose a danger to the Bushies because he knows where the bodies are buried, so to speak. The danger posed by his stupidity is certainly magnified when his incompetence and dishonesty are considered and should be worth far more than a $100,000 annual salary. Assuming he stays quiet, the Bushies got off cheap but Gonzales just got punked.
