First of all, our legislators are aware of the moral objection some citizens have to paying into a health care system that performs [legal] abortions and I think considerations will be made so that individuals can subscribe to plans that do and don’t provide abortions.

Randall Terry predicts/threatens violence resulting from what he judges as an unacceptable policy/legislation, which in fact is legitimate and the result of democratic process and rule of law.

The line he walks is between prediction and threat and he is a coward to stand squarely between them becuase he won’t risk civil disobedience by following his conscience and making it an unambiguous threat, which is his druthers. He is a terrorist to threaten violence and mayhem as a direct response to the practice he “righteously” abhors but which is well-grounded in the law.

Randall Terry wants to operate outside the norms of a civil society and he does. We are worried about that because of the people he might incite to do lethal violence. I guess we have to live with it as we do all of the threats to our safety.

I guess the NPC has no moral scruples. Maybe they need to have it pointed out to them. Is this what they want coming from their space? No shirt, no shoes, no service. . .They need to find a rule that fits the ilk of Randall Terry.

I knew George Tiller for almost 30 years. I am, insofar as I am aware, the only psychologist in Kansas who publicly supported abortion rights and homosexual rights. A bit over a year ago I gave testimony at a joint senate-representative committee at the statehouse supporting George and late-term abortion rights.

As a psychologist, I firmly believe that though Randall Terry and his ilk did not pull the trigger, they did put the bullet in the gun and cock the hammer.

However, I don’t believe this can be addressed with criminalizing the activities of the likes of Terry. Instead, I believe these issues should be addressed in civil courts. The Southern Poverty Law Center has been successful in this respect, and I believe provides a model for redressing these issues.

You know, it’s curious to realize that the FBI is forever monitoring and infiltrating *dangerous* groups who are anti-war, Quakers, vegans and the like, yet you virtually never hear about ongoing investigations of organizations that have repeatedly proven themselves to be violent and homicidal, like Terry and his chums. Ah, the doublespeak of “pro-life”…

Re: National Press Club

Christy, you wrote:

Here, though? Terry gets time at the National Press Club to spew his vile, violent venom[.]

Don’t fret about the National Press Club. The press club rents space for press conferences, and I have no doubt that this is Randall Terry’s arrangement. It would be a mistake to assume that his appearance means anything more to them than a fee for service.

And I don’t think the news media will be swayed by the surroundings considering the buffoonish spectacle Terry made of himself the last time he appeared there.

In the first clip, Terry denies his movements culpability in Tiller’s murder, then immediately turns around and says he basically got what he deserved—-”Pro-life leaders and the pro-life movement are not responsible for George Tiller’s death. George Tiller was a mass-murderer and, horrifically, he reaped what he sowed.”

When he was finished with his speech, Terry invited members of the press to join him out for for chicken wings and beer noting—-”I like Guinness for those of you who want to have a beer somewhere. I prefer my chicken wings really hot and a little crispy.”

Murder, beer, and chicken wings. Yep, that sure smells like gravitas to me.

Hi all — just got back from a long walk with The Peanut. I needed it, after reading through all of this dreck.

Honestly, they need to ask GOP lawmakers what they think of this and make them answer on the record. Their silence only legitimizes Terry and his ilk and, worse, legitimizes the violent actions taken in their name.

Agree with Norske. How did this happen? How did the corporate media (TV and newspapers alike) come to view these off the wall evil spewers as their great white hope? I keep worrying that the media moguls are C Streeters…

Norske - Terry wasn’t necessarily invited by NPC - we learned last summer with the Larry Sinclair/Crack ‘Ho appearance that anyone with $53.00 can stage an event at their facility

and in case anyone missed it, and I hope you did - here’s some high end WaPo fluffery on Terry from this past week - to read it one would think he’s just some colorful eccentric with a theatric bent - link
