yes, I have had better luck with IE than FF at Nico’s place.

note: this dfh was in Iran for a month before the Shah’s departure – ’bout 2 weeks in, our Concierge came back to the hotel late at night, took us to the roof of the laundry a few blocks away so we could hear the calls of Allahu Akbar! in the night. believe it was ’safer’ then as SAVAK/security forces were behind the curve, wrongly perceiving the ‘pinging’ as ineffective and sloganeering

Morning all.

Rain . . . again . . . everything is growing mold and I’m allergic. Really tired of this.

But compared to what’s happening in Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq and lots of other places, I can’t complain.

Keeping the brave Iranians in my thoughts and prayers.

Tuesday we will have two kittens in our house to join our Toby who has been lonely since Abby died suddenly. Signed the papers yesterday. It’s going to be interesting!

Mr. Rev and I just had our 15th anniv. and we got each other the same card—pic of 2 kittens snuggling in a tiny hammock. It was a sign that we needed to get both of them I think.

from Nico:

9:15 AM ET — AP: Tear gas and water cannons being used.

Witnesses say police are using tear and water cannons to disperse thousands of protesters rallying in Tehran to demand a new presidential election.

Eyewitnesses contacted by The Associated Press say the protesters gathered in central Tehran in open defiance of the cleric-led government.

The witnesses say some 3,000 protesters chanted “Death to the dictator!” and “Death to dictatorship!” near Revolution Square in central Tehran. Police confronted them by using tear gas and water cannon.

Witnesses say thousands of police and plainclothes militia members filled the streets to prevent rallies.

A German news service has similar accounts: “In ongoing confrontations, Iranian police clashed in Tehran with opposition protesters on Saturday, according to reports reaching the German Press Agency dpa in Berlin. The reports cited eyewitnesses as reporting a clash and that police and riot forces had used tear gas.”

Started by a minister in Prague in 1923. He was Baptist became Unitarian was arrested by Gestapo in WWII and killed in Dachau. So there’s Unitarian history involved.

We each interpret it our own way. In mine, people bring flowers to church which are put in vases in front of the church. At one point in the service they come up and pick one flower and take it back to their seats. We then do a guided meditation —taking our burdens, hopes and dreams and putting them into the petals of the flowers. Then we give them to someone else to take home with them and tend for as long as the flower holds together. Community, hope, sharing, etc.

Raven | Saturday June 20, 2009 06:34 am 51

Rayne | Saturday June 20, 2009 06:37 am 58

Morning, ‘pups. I see a few of you have been having problems with video and FF; I’ve switched to Google Chrome on both my XP and Vista machines after Microsoft did a major no-no and sent through a patch which opened a back door on FF. Microsoft is supposed to have reversed this after an uproar with yet another patch, but I’m playing it safe by staying off FF for the time being and staying altogether away from IE.

FF’s video problem is related to a media player extension, but I notice the problem on my Vista machine and not on my XP — which means there’s an operating system component to this issue as well.

If you’re trying Chrome, give yourself a little time to get used to it; the URL address bar is like Google search, can type in anything you wish to search for. You can also click and drag tabs to re-order them, click and drag tabs to create new windows. Bookmarking probably takes the most time to get used to. But the browser has so far been much, much faster than FF or IE on either of my machines, regardless of the operating system or available memory.

KayInMaine | Saturday June 20, 2009 06:40 am 59

Thanks for the tip, Rayne! Much appreciated. My FF has been having problems (”not responding”), so I’m wondering if it’s for the reason you mention?

My thoughts on TGWTDT: Not the best book I’ve ever read but ‘the girl’ is the most interesting character I’ve seen in ages. She makes it a good read. The second is better with ‘the girl’ being in more of the story.
There is a scene in the first which is unlike anything I’ve ever read and makes the book stand out (you’ll know it when you read it).
Overall, the plot lines etc are good, but the real draw is the main character. Reading about her is addictive and I can’t wait to read the third, and final, book.

Time for an “Awww” moment.

Yesterday afternoon, my eighteen year old daughter decided to try to work her way out of being grounded by taking on a major, unprovoked cleaning of her room. She came to me with a precious find. It was a card my father had written to her just after she learned to read. We lost him back in 1999; this card would probably be from 1996 or so. It had a cute picture of a cat. He told her about his dog and asked about her cat. I smiled as she showed it to me and then started to move on.

Two or three steps later, it hit me. She had found the card on his birthday. My voice wasn’t too steady when I returned to tell her that bit. She’s not usually a hugger, but that was one for the ages.

Yes, she will be allowed to go out tonight, the last night before we leave for a two week trip.

cbl’s cheater recipe:

block of cream cheese
sm can cream cheese icing
can of lemon filling
store bought crust
cool whip (spray can stuff doesn’t hold)

- leave cream cheese out for ’bout an hour
– mix 3/4’s cream cheese and 1/2 of icing together (your taste determines level of ’sweet’)
- spread on bottom of crust
- cover spread with lemon filling
- top with cool whip (you can ‘pipe’ it thru a sandwich bag w/hole cut in bottom corner)
- cool in fridge 45 min to an hour

voila

traditionalists usually balk about the spread and whip cream in place of meringue - until they taste it :D

been dyin to tell you ’bout our tiger as you would be mere putty in her paws – she is two y/o tuxedo, but never grew bigger than a six month old. she’s like the little girl in Interview With A Vampire, in that she looks and acts so sweet and innocent – but she was a feral rescue and eating from the streets is heavily imprinted on her – she is the Butcher of H**** Street and has horrified the neighborhood kids with her bloodlust. “Mrs X, is she gonna eat that bunny ?!?!?”

When I lived in LA I had a pure black tiger I had raised from a kitten (Min the First), along with his brothers and sisters, and mom Ishtar. We were getting ready to fry chicken when he jumped up on the counter and grabbed a leg. I went after him. He was under a chair and when I reached in to take it he bit me through the hand. By the time I got to the sink my hand was the size of a softball. I had the leg in the other hand, though. Chicken bones ain’t good for tigers.

Have you ever been nervous like that in the kitchen? Over the years there’s been times when I stare at the ingredients on the counter with my palms sweating. Isn’t that awful! Man, some recipes are just too much for me. ;-)

My father will most likely love the pie even if it’s a complete flop. One time I made a peanut butter pie for my grandmother in my early 20’s and I didn’t know it was a flop until I was told that she gave it to my Uncle Sam who loves anything peanut butter. LOL! Too funny.

SOB! I ate peanut butter everyday for all my life and then one day I was allergic. I’ve never gotten over it. I just know one evening when I’m at a party I’m going to mindlessly pop a handful of peanuts in my mouth. I can’t even eat SnoCaps -ye olde movie theater fave – cause they are made in the same factory as Goobers.

Oh, lordy. I’d die. My natural foods store has an older p-nut butter machine. They use dry roasted and I go through a container (1 lb) in about 10 days.

Mornin’ everybody.

It’s always such a treat when Christy shows up. I am so happy that she and Mr. Christy got that well – deserved break down in N.O. – and the follow-up time with the Peanut.

Anyway – glad that you had a great break – nobody can go to war 24/7.

Looking forward to your posts on the S.Ct nomination, and the attending fights, trials and tribulations.

(’Cause I know that you’ve already got that stuff in the bag) (*g*). Could we maybe get something started on the Dawn Johnsen front as well?

P.S. I just realized that I typed the words ” nobody can go to war 24/7″. I am such a liar – or maybe just a strange aberration…….
