Saturday Potluck

This just seemed ripe for discussion on so many levels at once.

While looking for a picture for this post,  I stumbled across the ultimate potluck dinner with your pals idea.  And I had to share it with all of you.

The Comfort Food Potluck.

Doesn’t that just scream relaxing evening with pals when you need it most?  Or something really fun to find out about your friends?

Because each person undoubtedly has their own take on "comfort food:"  chocolately goodness, salty and savory, sweet out the wazoo, the fruit salad granny used to make for holiday dinners, a good homemade pie, steamed spicy Chinese buns with garlicky dipping sauce…the potential is endless.

And wouldn’t that be a hoot and a half to find out about your pals?

Had to pass it along.  Because I knew the Saturday Potluck crowd would appreciate both the concept and the endless possibilities for fun, community and connection.

So, who has a fave recipe or idea to share?

I like the idea! Comfort food rocks. I make a Greek-style chicken and rice soup called Avgolemeno when I don’t feel well. It’s chicken soup with a frothy egg-lemon sauce that goes on the top right before serving. With a sprinkle of black pepper on top, it makes me feel better. I also like one of Rachel Ray’s early cookbook recipes for Italian Mac and Cheese–it has sausage, mushroom and tomato in it, besides the usual culprits. Very much hits the spot.

I hope you feel better soon.

Looks like we all took Saturday night off. I know I did, got away from the computer and did some things with a friend and with the kids for a change.

I guess if I was going to a comfort food potluck, I would take Greek Potato Salad (lemon juice and olive oil dressing laden with garlic, scallions, parsley, a pinch of oregano), and grill a nice thick London Broil to serve with it.

I have fallen into standard potluck items. Big on the appetizer end. Often bring Brie wrapped in filo dough served with pears , red grapes and crackers. Yum.

another favorite of mine has become sweet potato fries. Cut into french fries cover with a bit of olive oil, salt peppers, bake.
