Cafe Au Lait?

For NOLA readers, am planning to be at Cafe du Monde, 1039 Decatur Street at 10:30 am for cafe au lait and beignets.

Come down and grab a cuppa with me and pull up a chair!

The rest of you, have a great day. Thought you could use a discussion thread.

Beignets! Mmmmm. I love beignets and chicory coffee.

You’ve probably already discovered this, but it is literally impossible to get a bad meal in the Vieux Carré. Even the Shoney’s there raises its game a notch — they actually have credible dirty rice. And I am still kicking myself for not visiting Antoine’s when I was there.

Good Morning, Have a ball there by the Mighty Mississippi. I will be curious about your weather. Here in TX we have a record low for this day in May…amazing. Last evening was fabulous, and I am guessing some of the cool may be over that way. Later, you can give us a view of Audubon Park. Bon Jour.

‘Morning, Bev
I’m wishing I was close enough to join Christy and Friends in NO. Alas, it doesn’t feel any closer than WV, since I can’t get there from here.
How are ya? It’s been pretty hot here in the other LA. Seems we didn’t really get a spring. Just went from winter straight into summer. I’m coming up with a few energy saving ideas to keep the parts of the house we use most cool.
(Missing Christy)

This will round out your NOLA experience. Find a small family grocery store, they are probably pretty rare by now. The wife will be stocking shelves, a son or daughter at the checkout. The dad will be making poor boys. He will ask if you want it dressed (lettuce, mayo, tomato) or not dressed. That is all you get to say about condiments. If you try, they know you are a yankee. They know anyway but still.

Morning all,
Post Mardi Gras is a great time in Nawlins. Christy, are there still beads hanging in the trees from the festivities. We scored a couple of bags of beads w/o really trying. Surely the Peanut will spot them.

At one of the old cemeteries I found the statue that Peter Fonda climbed onto in the film Easy Rider. Y’all have a great time and say hi to any of the pups you meet.

Here’s a photo from Cafe du Monde.

Christy told me I might not recognize her, since she’d her hair cut very short. “But it’s still red,” she said. I can’t tell you how many red heads there were in Cafe du Monde today. But I still recognized her when she walked in.

Oh Lindy, thanks so much for the pic! Looks like she’s enjoying herself.

That’s great!

They are having a blast. The Mr. was doing some faux complaining about being dragged to Cafe du Monde yesterday at (OMG) 7:30. In the MORNING.

Sorry I missed it. Working for a living sucks sometimes.

Lindy | Tuesday May 19, 2009 05:22 pm 18

Yes, it does. I asked for the time off two weeks ago, and am making it up.

Don’t miss Venezia’s restaurant on Carrollton at Canal (take a streetcar). Order anything with eggplant! They were flooded by Katrina, but made it through. We drove to NOLA from Lafayette, LA, the weekend they reopened (270 mile round trip). Sorry, I could not make it in today. Something about work kept me otherwise occupied.

Christy -

Hope you are having a wonderful holiday! If you needed anything to make it better, am sure Marcy’s mention on KO last night was the cake icing. Safe travels………
