Saturday Potluck

Mr. ReddHedd and I are headed to NOLA for an anniversary trip/vacation starting tomorrow. (And boy do we both need one.)

As I’ve been planning for the trip, I’ve been researching food in New Orleans. This will be my first visit to the Big Easy and I’m really looking forward to it.

Because I’m a foodie, a lot of the fun in planning goes toward learning about various dining options, food specialties and great local joints along with the usual touristy bits and pieces. If my research on NOLA is any indication, it is a foodie paradise and I should be in heaven the whole time. (Let alone, sleeping in a bit. Woo hoo!)

That got me thinking about food and travel, and made me wonder what your favorite places — and dishes — might be. Do tell!

You are going to give us a slew of restaurant reviews and a general heads up concerning the gentrification of the Big Easy, right? Expense the whole trip?

Damn good idea. *g* But yes, seriously, I’ll be hopefully taking many pictures and notes on the sights and sounds and will let y’all in on the best of when I get back.

I think everyone I know needs a vacation. I hope you and Mr. Redd have a relaxing time, whatever that is for the two of you.
Put your feet up, girlfriend.

Demi, Hey….thinking of you. I got my salts and ready for a lovely bath.

NO is eating paradise….a new place every night for eons, never have to repeat, except some are very special, so you have to go back. That commentator from NO, Andrew Ko…, I can’t spell says something about the fat frying in French quarter that puts pounds on right then & there. Christy, for history’s sake, get someone to show you the hurricane story. It needs to be seen to really see what can happen to a great city. Also the results of the Corps of Engineer lawsuit were to be coming out. You may see alot of interesting coverage.

Here is an appropriate quote from Tom Robbins to guide your visit:

The minute you land in New Orleans, something wet and dark leaps on you and starts humping you like a swamp dog in heat, and the only way to get that aspect of New Orleans off you is to eat it off…. If you don’t eat day and night, if you don’t constantly funnel the indigenous flavors into your bloodstream, then the mysterious beast will continue humping you, and you will feel its sordid presence rubbing against you long after you leave town. In fact, like any sex offender, it can leave permanent scars.

BBQ shrimp is awesome at Pascal’s Manale 1838 Napoleon Ave. Huge beautiful spicy shrimp and the place is full of old New Orleans atmosphere. I will ask my cajun friends for the best recipe to make it yourself and let you know.
