Pull Up A Chair…

Because sometimes? We all need a few smiles and giggles along the way. Here’s a little good news and a few giggles:

– The White House swingset isn’t just for the Obama girls. Great use of public space for public benefit. Bravo. And a lesson to all of us that we are all in this together.

– The Serve America Act is kicking into gear on October 1. Here are some ways you can get involved — or involve a local project. And remember, you don’t have to wait until October to volunteer at a local shelter, soup kitchen or other group. Pick a cause, and lend a hand in your community!

– Athenae talks about the reality of love. Here’s hoping it finally does conquer all.

Tristero and dung beetles. Need I say more?

– The Village? It bonzer-yo-yo.

– Is Cali going the way of Branson?

Uh. Mah. Gawd.

So, what’s making you snicker or smile this morning? Do share. Pull up a chair…

Good Morning Christy!

tis a lovely Spring morning here.

Lindy | Saturday May 9, 2009 05:21 am 2

Morning, Christy. Hi, Elliot.

previouslyTdash | Saturday May 9, 2009 05:24 am 3

Hi Christy,
In the wake of getting canned at worked I have spearheaded an effort at our local men’s shelter to provide 30 men with mentors and we think we’ve found 2 of the guests affordable housing (a % of income) to out of homelessness into homefullness. Our goal is to raise funds and coax enough volunteers to keep it open next summer on an “earn-in” basis.

Thanks for keeping this place rocking. Now off to coach my 6 year old’s soccer game.
Hope Fi is doing great!

T-

A gud mournin’ to all…we know at least the banksters and pols are having fun.

barbara | Saturday May 9, 2009 05:35 am 5

G’morning’, everyone.

‘Tis lovely in the northland. Robins and cardinals are dominating the airwaves with their songs. Goldfinches are singing at the thistle feeder by my office window. The white-throated sparrows have been back for some time. And the hummingbirds are here as well. Have heard, but haven’t yet seen, the orioles. Everything is greening up and in spite of my benign neglect, David’s gardens are popping up all over the place.

(((T)) @3, you’re a star!

Lindy | Saturday May 9, 2009 05:39 am 6

I’m involved with a community garden. MY goal is to provide fresh produce to a local soup kitchen.

g’mornin’ all. i opened my blinds this morning to a roadrunner in the backyard. i’m here at the lake with my breakfast. i’ve been volunteering for the city council place 1 progressive/environmental candidate. the election’s today so i’ll be off soon to wave his sign and encourage people to vote for him. i’ve got the morning shift.

beth meacham | Saturday May 9, 2009 06:01 am 14

Good morning, especially to Katymine! How are you doing? Wait, you’re in AZ like me — why are you up so early?

What makes me smile this morning is the morning itself — summer has come to the desert, and with it dragon weather. Hot, dry, when the air is like strong spirits and the sun warms you from the inside out. And the mornings are unbelievably lovely. I stood out on my porch and watched the sun rise over the mountains and listened to the chorus of birds, and was very happy.

GM, Christy, and Great to See You, Katymine!!

Except for the politics of the game, a SC nominee need not be a lawyer or a judge. . .but I guess that politics has to win these days. I hope Obama appoints only women to the court. Maybe with 3 or 4 more women, the nasty bunch will begin their exodus.

Blue skies and Heat here. Another hot day.

i was on that track too!

but two friends called. one to find out whom she and her sister should vote for in the city council races today. and another called from the trail to let me know how her three dogs are – they got into a porcupine hiking last night. or i should say the porcupine got into them. about $1000 later, they seem to be fine. but then i remembered her husband hadn’t voted yet and called and reminded him to go vote.

well, i’ve got to get ready to go wave political signs at the polls this morning.

my house backs up to the barton creek greenbelt and we hike on the extensive trail system there. i hadn’t known about porcupines before this in this area either.

the one time i was hiking with a dog who got quilled was in oregon. there were only about 10 or so quills and i pulled them out with pliers.

these dogs had many many quills in their mouths and tongues. it really was necessary to sedate them first.

cbl2 | Saturday May 9, 2009 07:09 am 51

had some fun with my usual winger targets this week (think mailbox baseball) – raining all over their Dijon Mustard!! parade with this:

When a pool reporter following the president’s intown travel stationed outside dispatched an email to Rove inside, asking if the architect of the president’s campaigns could spare a doggy bag for the press van, sure enough — out came an emissary bearing a gift of sausage and quail wings.

as reported by some gal named Smith :D

What’s up here besides shredder going belly-up, basement waterproofing grinding to a halt (only the kitties are happy about that; We want it DONE!), rain forecast?

I read somethin’ cute yestidie, Ms. Redd:

I have a gorgeous blue jay pair hanging out at my feeder, sharing tidbits with each other at the moment. So cute.

You do know what that’s called, by real live scientists, yet?

“Courtship Feeding”

Awwwwwww. Now leave them to their privacy, my dear, and before you know it, they’ll be bring some young cuties to your feeder in awhile. Yes, Blue Jay hanky panky, right on your bird feeder. heh Please give them our best wishes. ;->

expensive little porcupine.

judicial intervention is needed. If I was the judge, I’d sentence the porpcupine to 90 days community service, consisting of the porcupine being required to roll around in a bed of marshmallows first thing in the morning, before heading out for the rest of its then non-prickly day.

Why am I thinking of s’mores all of a sudden?

Hi Katymine! I love the picture at the top–it’s a red flowering currant, and I have one growing in the backyard. It just finished blooming, and the hummingbirds jealously guarded it while it was in bloom!
