Stopping To Smell The Roses

Stopping to smell the roses a bit.

Didn’t think you all would mind if I took a little break, but I wanted to give you an open discussion thread in case you want to chitchat in my absence.

Enjoy.

Roses. Oh, my. I wasn’t going to share a burden on my heart, but I guess since this is an open thread and there are roses here, I shall.
One of my dearest friends in the world collapsed yesterday and is in a coma in icu. She’s a friend from church and is the reason I still sing and play music. She’s been the diva soprano for as long as I can remember and in my twenties, some thirty odd years ago, started inviting me to play my flute with her, at our church, other churches and even in some concerts. When she had tickets to concerts she couldn’t attend, she would give them to me. We were supposed to go see Ain’t Misbehavin’ at the Music Center next week.
I’ve got a lit candle floating in a nice cut glass bowl and a small rose bush sitting on a table near me.
Let’s sing for all the Roses.

Oops. I forgot to say her name. It’s Rose. Rose Marie.

oh ((((ms demi))).

didn’t know you played the flute – consensus says it is one of the most difficult to master.

roses – like orchids, I have intentionally avoided them as I’m old enough to know an obsession coming my way when I sees it :D the local florist has a bed of antiques I love walking by every day – they actually look gilded and preserved as they age.

p.s. recommend everyone ask the florist (supermarket kind is ok) to smell their silver roses – you will be hooked !

So glad you are taking a break, Christy. You deserve it.

Hugs, demi. Hope your friend recovers.

lilysmom | Wednesday May 6, 2009 08:45 am 5

demi, bless you and your friend. I sincerely hope that Rose gets well.

Thanks ladies. I’m only 57, but my two best friends from church are 70 and 90. Rose is 70. I told my sister last night I think I need to make some younger friends. Ha. She said yeah, Rose and Nez have some seriously worn tred.
I need to stay busy today, so I guess I’ll start off by going to the gym.
PS I think some of my fdl girlfriends are around my age. That’s a good thing.

I used to have silver roses, but the bush died..and they were the most fragrant in my garden.

Kestrel, also try the rose named Evelyn by David Austin Roses. Fantastic fragrance. I will look for a silver rose. Sounds like a lavender variety. Ummmm

Actually, mine might have been called “lavender”..but the bloom was more silver.

Wish I could remember the name, it’s been a few years – I think I must have already killed the brain cells with that particular information.

OK, very OT but I need some help. A wing nut got a LTE published in last Sunays local paper doing the wing nut rant about how the DHS under Obama did a report on various conservative groups and connection to terror. Fine. I wrote a response saying that the report was actually started by bushco, oh and BTW they did a left wing terror assessment back in Jan. I have since been in comm. with the editor who says he wants proof that the report actually was started during bushco. Now I admit I am not well versed in computer research-but apparently neither is the editor, he says he can not find any proof that the report, published on April 7, was not all done by Obama-I sent him all the references at C&L but have no idea if that is enough to make my case against the red necks. Does anyone have a link that I can use for proof that the DHS report on right wing terror groups was in fact commissioned by bush?

I saw repeated mentions that this report was started under BushCo. Also that there were similar prior reports about rightwing groups that BushCo censored publishing in previous years. Yeah, surprise, huh?

You may want to make a diary question of this and post in Oxdown…you’ll likely get more response. And go to google search and use keywords in their “news” search option.

Demi, thinking good thoughts for you and your friend.

I came here because I ran across a Minneapolis Tribune feature about Laura Ingalls Wilder and remembered Christy’s mention she’s reading the series with her daughter. Thought she might well find the article interesting.

Here’s to Roses and roses and rosier days ahead.

Demi – so sorry about your friend. I will “keep her in my thoughts” (Heard a lovely piece on Ira Glass’s show using the phrase, by a man who had lost his faith in God, so doesn’t pray anymore.)

Btw, for my 90 yr old mom, the hardes t thing about living so long is losing all her friends and family. Lost another one last month. she’s the last surviving sibling in her natal family. I know she’s lonely.

To timr: Have you asked the editor if he required proof of the statement that it was all Obama who produced the report when he published the letter you responded to?
Bet not. Good luck fiinding the sources – have you tried the presidential blog, or website, or gov. transparency sites?
I’ll be offline again in 3 seconds – still waiting for my computer to be repaired, about to be kicked off the library one.
good to ’see’ y’all!
