Saturday Potluck

These are a few of my favorite things:

– Empty beaches and time to take a long walk in the quiet while looking for shells and soaking in the sounds of the surf.

– Sage and Citrus and Home Sweet Home scented Yankee Candles.

– Chocolate.

– Hugs from The Peanut. Or from Mr. ReddHedd, for that matter.

– Getting to sleep in…and then waking up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee.

– Hummingbirds and butterflies visiting my flowers.

– The first fresh tomato, warmed by the sun, sliced thinly with some fresh mozzarella, layered on a pretty plate, sprinkled with basil and drizzled with some good extra virgin olive oil and a grind or two of sea salt.  Nothing better for lunch.

– Re-reading a good book. Last year, I re-read all of Jane Austin’s novels — nothing like a comfort read when life throws you a few lemons.  Same goes for Frank Herbert’s Dune, Tolkien, George R.R. Martin, and some early Anne McCaffrey — the Crystal Singer has been a go to comfort read since I was small.  Also the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, Julie Andrews’ Mandy and The Secret Garden.  And the list keeps on going and going and going.

Hello, my name is Christy.  And I’m a book-a-holic.

What are a few of your favorite things?

A good list though I’m for burning real sage, pine needles, and sweet grass as I learned from my sweetheart.

Christy, if you haven’t read the The Tin Roof Blowdown by James Lee Burke, please do so. I highly recommend it. Burke is a wonderful mystery writer. Also, The Falls by Ian Rankin.

I’ve never read The Crystal Singer, but I will now. I am still in comfort book mode. The last eight months have been exhausting, but I’m coming out of that now with the sunshine. I had a hard time believing that the vile toads Sauron, Saruman and Grima Wormtongue would really go away. I’m getting ready to crack Nixonland after I finish the Ian Rankin’s Rebus series.

I love planting green things and watching them thrive and bloom.

I love the scent of YCs Sage and Citrus candle, too. Also, MidSummer’s Night and Evening Air.

Also, Sonoma Pepper by Urban Accents. It is The Best pepper evar. Makes everything you put it on taste better. It is available through Amazon, if your grocery store doesn’t carry it.

And if you have never tried Goya’s product, Recaito-Cilantro Cooking base, ummm, please do. It just gives a wonderful, different sort of cilantro taste to soups, rice dishes, cheese dip and such. It is also available online or in the Hispanic section of the grocery.

Have a good weekend with the Peanut and Mister Redhead.

Crystal Singer is an excellent book. It’s the first of a trilogy (and best). The other two are Crystal Line and Killashandra. The nice thing about so much of Anne McCaffrey’s books is even as trilogies (or more) they usually can stand alone as good reads.

while clearing clutter, consolidating , getting organized, i have found many of my favorite things, it’s been a treasure hunt.

my list of favorites is too long. depends what season it is. i decided to find songs that give me the feeling i get from my favorite things. which is why they are favorite songs. if you haven’t heard these songs before, please listen to them. they describe every season of favorite things.

many of people’s favorites are listed here–along with another favorite thing of mine used in the youtube, photographs.
my favorite things-beautiful version of rodgers and hammerstein’s song, lyrics on the side. with a photo montage, very nice.

another favorite thing to describe favorite things-pete townshend, hands down-and this song.
the man who did this youtube, with pete’s version of the song, used his favorite things to go with it and obviously loves his family. perfect tribute to this song. i wrote him a note to tell him that.
blue, red and grey

Some people seem so obsessed with the morning
Get up early just to watch the sun rise
Some people like it more when there’s fire in the sky
Worship the sun when its high
Some people go for those sultry evenings
Sipping cocktails in the blue, red and grey
But I like every minute of the day

I like every second, so long as you are on my mind
Every moment has its special charm
Its all right when you’re around, rain or shine
I know a crowd who only live after midnight
Their faces always seem so pale
And then there’s friends of mine who must have sunlight
They say a suntan never fails
I know a man who works the night shift
He’s lucky to get a job and some pay
And I like every minute of the day

I dig every second
I can laugh in the snow and rain
I get a buzz from being cold and wet
The pleasure seems to balance out the pain

And so you see that I’m completely crazy
I even shun the south of France
The people on the hill, they say I’m lazy
But when they sleep, I sing and dance
Some people have to have the sultry evenings
Cocktails in the blue, red and grey
But I like every minute of the day

I like every minute of the day

here is another version by uke player bill martino from australia.
this version has drop-dead gorgeous photography in it, the youtube montage was done by one of his friends. i love the tennis shoes.

another favorite is the way this song makes me feel, even though i couldn’t understand a word of it. first time i heard this song while watching the art movie ‘alchemy’, another favorite, this song made me cry it was so beautiful. pure and simple. had to have a copy. captured being outside, staring at the moon, wide open to it and the world sleeping, and how that ‘all is well’ or ‘all will be well’ feeling can rush over you. and you get your answer.i am outside looking at the sky no matter the season. perfect song for that movie.
pink moon-nick drake
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..annel_page

I saw it written and I saw it say
Pink moon is on its way
And none of you stand so tall
Pink moon gonna get you all
Its a pink moon
Its a pink, pink, pink, pink, pink moon.

every season. love the changing of the seasons.
summer-sunlight underwater. thunderstorms. fresh produce. hammocks and a book.
and one of my most extra-special favorite things is lightning bug evenings and i put on music to go with them. four kinds of lightning bugs, so, very few songs won’t go with them. absolutely fascinating. been doing it for years. noone believes me until they see it themselves. is magical.

spring- tons of peeper frogs at night. and the smell of the earth thawing. rain. the birds chirping again early early in the morning, finally leaving the windows open at night and adding an extra blanket so i can hear that. fog as the earth warms.

winter-when it snows. snow angels. soup. hockey season. real cocoa made from penzey’s cocoa with real milk. having a warm home to nest in.

autumn. my favorite season. sweaters. corduroy. leather shoes. leaves on the trees and crunching below my feet. the smell of them. first heavy frosts and the patterns they leave on everything, then the sun melts it and it’s hot by the afternoon. fresh cider. morning fog as the earth cools.

and having favorite things and people that make me feel ’safe’.

sorry so long.i even edited it.

thanks, christy.
